Memories: I didn’t spend much time on campus outside of going to classes, but trivia nights at UHOP were always memorable. Our team typically averaged 8-10 of some of Unity College’s finest folks, and we always had so much fun that I don’t recall winning a single time over the 2+ years I participated. I’m going to miss all the rad people that made Tuesday evenings a time to look forward to each week.

Being the last student to graduate from the entering class of 2012, my favorite memory is definitely something that needs a little more explanation. It was when I realized I had found my people. It was way back during my Unity Experience class my freshman year. This of course was the last year the Unity Experience classes took part in SPOILED, which was basically a post apocalyptic scenario of figuring out what the world would be like after we reached peak oil. My class had been split into groups to figure out certain aspects. My partner and I were working on shelter solutions. I started trying to reason out possible practical solutions and I was not even convinced of what I was saying. My partner suddenly just said, “Just kill half the population and the rest can simply use existing structures.” In that moment I froze, my face lit up, and I realized I no longer had to hold back my hatred of the human race. I finally found people as crazy as I was. Part of what makes this school so special is that a very unique crowd is attracted to it and that should never change. It was the greatest feeling to feel like I belong because of what makes me weird.

The photos symbolize what has meant the most to me during my time at Unity: friends, social and environmental justice, and veterinary medicine. I am very excited to be attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in the fall, where I will continue to focus my studies in wildlife medicine. Working in the Animal Room for 3 years and at a veterinary clinic since September has very much strengthened my love for this path; I could not be more thankful for the opportunities I have had to learn and grow since moving here four years ago.

I interned at ReVision Energy in sales my junior year . They proceeded to hire me part time during my senior year “this year” and about a month ago offered me a full time position creating a new sales position focused on community solar farms in the State of Maine !!!! I accepted the offer and will continue to reside in unity for now. Included is a photo of me after hiking Beehive in Acadia National Park .

I’d say my favorite part about the school was meeting a bunch of like-minded individuals. I was happy to get to meet the people pictured here. I’m sad I didn’t get to spend the rest of the semester with them. I love my nerds <3.
In the future I plan to become an educator and use ambassador animals to teach people of all ages, raising empathy and conservation awareness.

After college I plan to go work in rock climbing either indoor or working with outdoor rock climbing. Climbing was always a joyful experience for me and I want to give others that same feeling of joy.
My favorite college memory is revamping the spring game of Humans versus Zombies and operating the game during open house by pure coincidence
But in reality my favorite memory from college is meeting so many wondrous people whom I have had the pleasure to work with and be able to call my friends from the adventure community, the Nerd Club, and the campus as a whole.

My favorite memory overall had to have been NOVA. I met some of my best friends on that trip and to this day they are some of the most incredible people I have ever met. Because of bonds like these Unity will always have a special place in my heart. The first picture is us on NOVA while the second was us video chatting during quarantine. Unity College has helped me form bonds that I will have for life. I have an internship this summer with the USGS and will be returning in the Fall to finish a few classes as well as finish my thesis!

Highlights of my time at Unity:
Everything, really. I had such a great time! Some of my favorites are:
- Nova. I don’t think any other school has an experience quite like Nova. I met so many cool people, and got to see the beautiful coastline of Maine. It was a great adventure!
- The Common Ground Fair. It is still the only country fair I have ever been to, and it’s so cool that there is an event like that in Unity.
- Sky Lodge opening. I haven’t been to Sky Lodge since then, but it was nice to see a beautiful part of the state, even if it was a long trip.
- Birding Club owl banding. The birding club went on a trip to band Saw-whet Owls, and it was amazing! It was freezing, but the owls were so cute and it was a great experience!
- Rocky Horror and the drag show. Both of these events were so fun, and it was a lot of laughs!
- My internship. It was great to have a taste of what I’ll be doing after I graduate, and it was a lot of fun! I got to work with a lot of cool animals at Foster Parrots, and met a lot of great people.
- The climate strike event. It was nice to be at a school that cares about environmental issues, and supports its students in speaking out on those issues.
- Humans vs Zombies. It was a fun event with some great people, and a great way to blow off steam when class gets tough.
Future plans:
I hope to work with animals, especially birds, at a zoo or sanctuary, or get involved in conservation projects.
